By trapping pollutants before they enter your Nissan&apos;s motor, the air filter helps maintain an optimal air-fuel ratio, ultimately helping your Nissan perform more efficiently.</p><p>The filter is inside an Air Filter Housing which is sometimes called an air box or air filter box, which holds it in place and protects it from collisions or heat. In addition, the Air Filter Housing also encases the intake air temperature (IAT) and mass airflow sensor.</p><p>Unlike the air filter, the Air Filter Housing doesn�t require regular replacement. Rather, your Nissan air box should be changed as-needed � if it�s worn, cracked, or otherwise faulty.</p><p>A couple of signs that you need a replacement Air Filter Housing include rough idling, reduced fuel efficiency, stalling, and a check engine light.
